Memorial for Fallen Soldiers Under Development in Odessa

Work is currently underway in Odessa to establish a Memorial dedicated to fallen soldiers.

The latest meeting at the city council, chaired by Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov, focused on honoring the memory of the fallen Heroes.

Architect David Pishchev presented the concept for the Memorial, developed in close collaboration with the families of the soldiers.

During a previous meeting, prototypes of gravestones were showcased.

A key topic was the selection of a site for the Memorial, which will allow for precise planning. The mayor noted that since 2014, Odessa has faced a shortage of burial places. To expand the cemetery, the city purchased land from private owners that had been acquired from the state in 1992.

The Director of the Legal Department of the city council, Inna Popovska, clarified that this pertains to a single property complex currently managed by the Municipal Capital Construction Enterprise. This area is being considered as a potential location for the Memorial.

The mayor instructed the land cadastre bureau to conduct aerial photography of the site for further planning and project commissioning.

According to David Pishchev's proposal, the Memorial will include:

  • standardized military burial sectors;
  • a multifunctional building for farewell ceremonies;
  • a park area with elements allowing for creative expressions of grief and sharing of memories.

Efforts continue on analyzing proposals and seeking resources for project implementation. The establishment of the Memorial will be a crucial step in preserving the memory of those who gave their lives for Ukraine.
