Odesa Half Marathon: A Race for Charity
The Odesa Half Marathon attracted over 600 participants united by the goal of supporting charity and adaptive sports.
The municipal enterprise «City Roads» is dedicated to maintaining the rainwater drainage systems on the city's streets.
Experts perform repairs and cleaning of storm collectors, catch basins, rain wells, and specialized hydraulic structures, removing mud, leaves, debris, and reeds.
Cleaning of the rainwater drainage systems in Odesa is carried out continuously according to a citywide plan. During heavy rains, additional teams from «City Roads» work on the streets to clear catch basin grates of fallen leaves and debris carried by rainwater, ensuring free drainage from the streets.
In the first nine months of the current year, the workers completed cleaning tasks: 15,369 linear meters of ditches and trenches, 3,902 catch basins, 4,997 collectors, and 21,479 meters of pipe flushing.
Additionally, the staff mowed grass on channels and trenches of hydraulic structures (10,060 linear meters) and cleaned 1,735.6 square meters of the buffer pond.
Cleaning operations are performed manually and with the help of heavy machinery, including excavators, graders, and high-pressure hydraulic units based on MAN vehicles for flushing pipes, as well as trucks and other equipment.
Moreover, specialists repair wells, replace pipes in catch basins, and raise grates to road level when necessary, restoring the covers of inspection wells.
Since the beginning of 2024, the workers have installed and replaced 55 grates on catch basins and repaired 26 catch basins with casting replacements.
During operation, catch basin grates may sink, creating depressions on the roadway that can lead to accidents. Specialists regularly address this issue.
Thus, since the start of this year, the municipal workers have raised 91 sunken catch basin grates to road level and installed 19 inspection wells at the same level. They also repaired 8 inspection wells with casting replacements and installed 3 cover plates on inspection wells and 11 on catch basins.
Furthermore, since the beginning of this year, the enterprise has repaired 41 linear meters of collectors, conducted video inspections of 556 linear meters of collectors, and pumped out 1,039 cubic meters of rainwater from the roadway.
