Mental Health Forum: New Perspectives for Ukraine

The resilience of individuals is closely linked to the stability of social systems. This critical message was highlighted at the Mental Health Forum, which kicked off on November 26 in Kyiv. Over three days, experts, government officials, community representatives, and international partners discussed how to develop a modern and effective mental health support system in Ukraine.

The Odessa region actively participated in this dialogue, contributing to the nationwide mental health program «How are you?» – an initiative by First Lady Olena Zelenska.

Our region was represented at the forum by:

  • – Dmytro Radulov, Deputy Head of the Odessa Regional State Administration,
  • – Anna Velichko, regional coordinator of the «How are you?» program in Odessa,
  • – Margarita Bespalko, consultant in the Dobroslav community,
  • – Valentina Vitos, Director of the Odessa Regional Center for Ukrainian Culture.

During the opening of the forum, Olena Zelenska emphasized: «I am grateful to everyone who, in various sectors, under different conditions, and with diverse experiences, is working together to surround Ukrainians with care and provide them with moral support. Unfortunately, we cannot heal all wounds. However, we can offer everyone in pain a sense of support, understanding, and compassion.»

Ukraine is studying international experiences while simultaneously creating a unique system that addresses the challenges of our time.

A particular pride for Odessa is the award received by the Odessa Regional Center for Ukrainian Culture for its active participation in the «How are you?» program.

The forum also presented a range of services that the state offers to support mental health and discussed new legislative initiatives in this sector.

The forum was organized with the support of WHO, the Coordination Center of the Cabinet of Ministers / Mental Health UA, the Netherlands, Canada, and France. Ukraine is confidently moving towards creating a system that cares for everyone.
