Illegal Tobacco Cultivation Discovered in Odesa Region

The head of BEB detectives, Oleksandr Tkachuk, reported this during a roundtable with the «Ukrtyun» Association.

According to BEB, 16 greenhouses were set up in the fields of the Ovidiopol community in the Odesa region. Tobacco was grown using a drip irrigation system, creating ideal conditions for plant growth.

After harvesting, the tobacco leaves were dried in specially equipped rooms for several months. The dried raw material was then processed using an industrial line and packaged in boxes. Investigators believe the finished tobacco was intended for illegal sale throughout Ukraine, labeled as products of well-known brands.

BEB detectives seized nearly 56 tons of grown and processed tobacco. They also confiscated planting equipment, irrigation hoses, and an industrial line for drying and grinding tobacco. The seized materials have been sent for necessary judicial examinations as part of the investigation.
