Commemoration of Boris Edwards
Exploring the life and work of Boris Edwards, honoring his memory in Ukraine.
The building located at 24 Serednia Street in Odesa has been fully restored after suffering from a missile strike on December 29, 2023.
The attack caused significant damage to key structural elements from the first to the sixth floor, including three columns and two shear walls.
After urgent reinforcement of the structures and initial emergency measures by the company “Stikon,” large-scale restoration works began.
Continuous geodetic monitoring helped prevent further damage and shifts. During the restoration, a new reinforced concrete frame, ceilings, and shear walls were installed; external and internal walls were restored; all engineering networks, electrical panels, and fire safety systems were replaced; new elevators were installed, and the area was landscaped.
Currently, all major construction works have been completed. The total funding from the city budget amounted to nearly UAH 37 million, which was allocated for emergency measures, restoration of structures, and assistance to affected residents for window and door replacements.
“Today we have the second building in the city fully restored after enemy attacks. Residents had almost lost hope of returning to their apartments — and now we see tears of joy in their eyes. This building was nearly completely destroyed, but thanks to the joint efforts of the team — builders, utility services, deputies, and the Academy of Construction — we halted the destruction and restored the home. This is a significant achievement, and I am sincerely grateful to everyone involved,” stated Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov.
Residents whose apartments suffered the most damage are encouraged to apply to the state program “eRestoration,” where they can receive compensation for repairs of up to UAH 350,000. The city will also assist in preparing the necessary documentation.
Odesa continues its systematic efforts to restore the damaged residential infrastructure and support its residents.
