Accessibility Initiatives in Odessa: Paving the Way

Odessa is diligently working on the development of accessibility routes as part of a national initiative. On August 20, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a resolution that defines the procedure for planning and equipping barrier-free transportation and pedestrian routes.

This document organizes the process and paves the way for scaling the initiative nationwide. Currently, 15 communities are involved in the pilot project led by the Ministry of Development.  Local authorities, architects, project leaders, and NGOs are collaboratively developing these routes.

The Ministry of Development coordinates the entire process. Odessa consistently ranks among the leaders in implementing these measures.

During an online meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Kuleba, the progress of the project in Odessa was discussed, including updates to the barrier-free route signage and the agreement on project documentation for its first phase.

“In collaboration with the ministry and relevant experts, the city is making steady progress towards implementing modern barrier-free solutions to make Odessa more accessible for everyone,” noted Acting Deputy Mayor of Odessa, Serhiy Kotsyuba.
