Enhancing Architectural Accessibility in Odessa

Odessa is a city renowned for its rich architectural heritage, boasting over 2000 monuments. However, many of these require upgrades with a focus on accessibility for everyone.

The Mayor of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov, and the barrier-free expert Alexey Morozov discussed with UNDP representative, architect Artem Moiseenko, the improvements needed for architectural accessibility.

Odessa is preparing to submit an application for a project competition aimed at establishing barrier-free routes. During discussions, particular attention was given to tourist paths in the historical city center.

Meeting participants emphasized the need for creating adapted pathways, installing navigational elements, ramps, and handrails that would ensure comfortable and safe usage of urban spaces for individuals with various needs.

Specifically, the architectural accessibility of the Odessa City Council building was addressed.
