Maintenance of Hydraulic Structures in Odesa: Importance and Techniques

To ensure the functionality of hydraulic structures, specialists from the city’s road company in Odesa conduct regular cleaning operations. This is a critical aspect of their duties.

Key facilities include the buffer pond, the Romanian canal, and the Kuyalnik ditches, all designed to drain rainwater, melted snow, and other runoff from the city streets.

Using specialized machinery, municipal workers clear channels and ponds of vegetation, trash, and sludge. Special attention is given to the dirtiest areas, particularly where wastewater from private homes is discharged.

The Kuyalnik ditch, the main drainage channel, extends for 4650 meters. It runs along Vapnyana and Khadyzhbeyskaya streets before reaching the drainage pumping station. This ditch helps drain water from neighborhoods adjacent to these streets.

Additionally, municipal services regularly clean storm drains and sewer collectors throughout the city. Heavy equipment, including excavators, graders, and specialized washing units, is employed for these tasks.

In cases of heavy rainfall, these cleaning operations are carried out on an unscheduled basis.
