Severe Weather Hits Odessa: City Response to the Aftermath
Insight into the severe weather in Odessa, response efforts, and safety reminders for residents.
As a result of a Russian strike on Odesa on the night of June 28, a teacher and social pedagogue Kateryna Borsynska and her husband Valentyn were killed.
This was reported by the mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov and colleagues of the educator.
“Last night, our dear colleague, a caring mentor for children, an advisor for parents, a wonderful person with a big heart, and a professional educator Kateryna Valentina Borsynska was lost due to the enemy attack.
This is an unspeakable loss for everyone who knew Kateryna Valentina personally: a responsible, decent, honest, and kind person; a professional, creative educator, a true master of her craft,” said the Mykhailivskyi Lyceum in Odesa.
Journalist Zoya Kazanzhi shared that shortly after the full-scale invasion began, Kateryna and Valentyn welcomed a granddaughter, whom they “only managed to enjoy for three years.”
“Together with her – her husband Valentyn. Two whose love and kindness should have continued to warm their loved ones for a long time. They moved from Kryvyi Rih to Odesa. We are sorry we could not protect them,” wrote Oleksandr Lonchak, the director of the Department of Education and Science of the Odesa Regional State Administration.
As a reminder, on the night of Saturday, Russia struck an apartment building in Odesa with a drone. The 7th, 8th, and 9th floors of the building caught fire due to the shelling. Local residents were trapped in their apartments.
Rescuers recovered the bodies of the couple from the rubble. As a result of the attack, 17 people were injured, including three boys aged 3, 7, and 14 years. Three of the injured are in serious condition.
