Corruption Arrest in Odessa Region

In Odessa, law enforcement agencies have detained the deputy head of the Medical Commission of a local hospital for receiving a bribe of 6 thousand dollars in exchange for assisting a soldier's discharge. The suspect has been charged. He now faces imprisonment and property confiscation.

The press service of the regional police reported that the deputy, in collusion with unidentified personnel from the Military Medical Center, offered to help a soldier's acquaintance to be discharged from service. For 6 thousand dollars, he promised to provide medical documents that would justify the soldier's discharge.

"During the operation to stop the suspect's criminal activity, police documented the receipt of illegal benefits in two installments and the transfer of promised documents, after which he was detained."

Investigators charged him under part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – for receiving illegal benefits by a public official using his position. This crime is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and deprivation of the right to hold certain positions.

The court has chosen a preventive measure of detention with the right to bail of 908,400 hryvnias. Individuals involved in the scheme are being identified."
