Robbery of a Phone in Odesa: Court Issues Sentence

In February of this year, an incident occurred in Odesa where a criminal snatched a phone from an elderly man while pretending to help him find his way. The court sentenced the perpetrator to seven years behind bars.

During lunchtime, a local resident noticed a disoriented elderly man who had come from Berezivka. The perpetrator, feigning kindness, offered to assist the 62-year-old gentleman, then seized his phone from his pocket at the right moment.

The police quickly located the criminal in a nearby neighborhood and returned the stolen phone to its owner.

At the time of the robbery, the 39-year-old man already had a criminal record for property crimes. The court imposed pre-trial detention, which he could not contest.

After gathering sufficient evidence, investigators charged the suspect under part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to open theft of property under martial law. The pre-trial investigation concluded, and the case was sent to court.

After reviewing the materials, the court found the accused guilty of robbery and sentenced him to seven years of imprisonment.
