Martial Arts Festival in Odesa: Honoring Heroes

A martial arts festival took place in Odesa, dedicated to honoring the memory of fallen defenders of Ukraine.

This festival is held several times a year, each one dedicated to a specific hero. The event involves the families of fallen soldiers, veterans, and members of martial arts federations, fostering unity around a common goal.

“Such events are essential — for our homeland and for ourselves. It is our duty to remember those who gave their lives for Ukraine,” emphasized the festival organizer, Denis Zharkov, head of the organization “It Matters.”

Volodymyr Yermakov, head of the city’s veterans department, stressed the importance of developing a culture of memory in society: “We need to change our attitude towards honoring the fallen — to create a true culture of memory. This is vital for those who have endured the horrors of war, for the families of the fallen, and for our entire society. Memory is our strength and our obligation.”

The festival featured representatives from various sports organizations. European and world champions showcased their skills in martial arts such as Kudo, MMA, boxing, and adaptive jiu-jitsu.

The event was organized in partnership with the Odesa City Council's Department of Veterans Affairs.
