Official Demands Bribe for Mobilization

A suspect attempted to extort illegal benefits from a man wishing to enlist, promising to influence the right people. He has been charged and a preventive measure has been chosen. His actions could lead to imprisonment and asset confiscation.

Investigators from the Odesa police department, together with the SBU counterintelligence unit, found that the man wanting to serve in the Armed Forces sought advice from a service chief. However, to resolve the issue, the chief demanded two thousand dollars.

For this amount, the serviceman promised to influence the decisions of military officials, claiming personal connections with them. He noted that if the man enlisted independently, he could not guarantee service in the rear unit.

After the bribe was handed over, law enforcement apprehended the suspect and seized the money.

With enough evidence gathered, police investigators charged the suspect with receiving illegal benefits linked to extortion. This crime carries a penalty of up to eight years in prison with asset confiscation.

The court has chosen a preventive measure of detention with the option of posting bail of 1.8 million UAH.

The investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the Odesa Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the defense sector, identifying all individuals involved in the crime.
