In the Odesa region, law enforcement authorities arrested the head of a military medical facility for corruption. The doctor demanded $2000 from a serviceman, promising to assist in obtaining documents confirming limited fitness for service. The perpetrator faces up to ten years in prison with property confiscation.
The investigation was carried out by the detectives of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Odesa region in collaboration with military counterintelligence officers.
It was established that the head of the surgery department demanded money for preparing medical documents that would allow the serviceman to continue serving in the rear. Initially, he asked for $10,000, but later lowered the amount to $2000. Police detained him after he received the money, which was seized as evidence.
After gathering sufficient evidence, the doctor was suspected of extorting illegal benefits under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. For this crime, he faces up to ten years of imprisonment, as well as a possible prohibition from holding certain positions for up to three years, and property confiscation.
The court has chosen a preventive measure of detention with the possibility of bail set at 605,600 UAH.
The investigation continues. The procedural leadership in the case is carried out by the Odesa Specialized Prosecutor's Office.
