Odessa Conference Focused on Diabetes Awareness

The mayor of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov, participated in a conference dedicated to World Diabetes Day. 

According to the World Health Organization, diabetes is among the top three diseases that lead to disability and death. Early detection of diabetes significantly reduces the risks of complications. 

At the event, specialists were joined by parents and children suffering from diabetes, who receive comprehensive support. The conference also discussed advancements in modern diabetology. 

«Despite the war, Odessa continues to work on improving the quality of life for people with diabetes and raising awareness about this disease. We are ready to implement new modern solutions and technologies to enhance the lives of our children, and we are developing preventive measures to promote a healthy lifestyle among the youth,» said the Mayor of Odessa.
 

In Odessa, there are over 30,000 adults and children living with diabetes. Among them, nearly 5,000 patients have insulin-dependent diabetes and receive insulin therapy, including over 400 children. 

- All diabetes patients have access to necessary medications through the state program "Affordable Medicines".
- The «Diabetes School» operates at the Reznik Children's Center. 
- As part of the City Health Program, insulin pumps and supplies have been purchased for children with type 1 diabetes. 
- Free continuous glucose monitoring systems are installed for children. 
- Free awareness campaigns are held to promote diabetes prevention and early detection. 
- A project has been launched to raise awareness among teachers about diabetes.
