The Odessa Department of Health is actively working to enhance the rehabilitation system for Ukraine's defenders by implementing innovative adaptive sports methods. Recently, a meeting was held at the city hall to discuss the prevention and correction of stress-related conditions in military personnel and veterans through physical activity and esports.
The event involved medical specialists including rehabilitators, physiotherapists, sports doctors, neurologists, and psychologists, as well as representatives from the Department of Physical Culture.
Vasyl Rybak, head of the rehabilitation department, shared insights on how esports and virtual reality can improve physical, mental, and cognitive conditions. It was emphasized that regular training not only enhances physical capabilities but also promotes mental abilities, emotional regulation, sleep quality, and self-discipline.
The primary goal of this initiative is to develop a comprehensive program for treating stress disorders and socially integrating veterans. International methods, including experiences from the USA, the UK, Belgium, and Switzerland, will be utilized.
It is proposed to create working groups based in medical facilities to implement esports in rehabilitation programs. All establishments will receive unified methodological guidelines to tailor rehabilitation individually.
The expected outcomes of introducing esports into rehabilitation departments include improved physical health, reduced stress levels, and the formation of social communities through teamwork.
Veterans who have undergone rehabilitation shared their positive experiences from adaptive sports, including the use of virtual reality systems for individuals with disabilities.
