Merger of Maritime Universities in Odesa

Two major maritime institutions in Odesa have decided to merge into a single educational establishment. This decision was made during a meeting of representatives from the Ministry of Education and Science with the leadership of the National University "Odesa Maritime Academy" and Odesa National Maritime University.

A meeting took place at the National University "Odesa Maritime Academy" (NU OMA) with Deputy Minister of Education and Science Mykhailo Vynnytskyi and the heads of two Odesa maritime universities. Participants agreed on the need to consolidate the National University "Odesa Maritime Academy" and Odesa National Maritime University into one institution.

During the meeting, they discussed how and when the merger would take place, who would lead this process, and other critical issues regarding the establishment of a new institution based on the two universities.

The aim of this initiative is to create a robust modern maritime university in Ukraine and improve the overall maritime education system.

It was previously reported that the maritime academy is set to be integrated into the maritime university, which has faced resistance from the academy's leadership.

For more details on the arguments against the merger and the position of NU OMA, "Odesa Life" covered it in the article: Will Odesa be left without higher maritime education? The academy is planned to be merged with the water university.
