Celebrating the Legacy of Stus: A Cultural Festival in Odesa

On January 6, Odesa joined the nationwide festival «STUSuyemos» to honor the poet Vasyl Stus, who maintained his spirit even in chains.

The event's founder, military personnel and musician Ihor Dvyhalo, organized meetings from a bunker, symbolizing that culture knows no boundaries.

This year, Odesa, Lviv, Dnipro, Rivne, Khmelnytskyi, Kamianets, and other cities joined Kyiv in this cultural endeavor.

The celebration in Odesa took place at More Music Club, featuring an eclectic musical and poetic performance that revealed Stus as a rebellious artist, still relevant today.

The evening began with electronic music, under which an 11-year-old boy recited Stus's poetry, bringing the voice of the sixties poet to resonate with a new generation.

The program included a musical stand-up from the independent Kyiv theater «Between Three Columns» and mini-sets from Odesa bands across various genres, from electronic to industrial metal.

Some of the music was directly inspired by Stus's poems, while others reflected and imagined ideas sparked by his texts. Between performance blocks, short facts about Vasyl Stus's life were shared—dates, events, and details often overlooked in official biographies.

The grand finale featured a communal carol «Good Evening to You, Master of the House».

On January 6, during the Epiphany, this carol resonated in unison across various cities in Ukraine.
