Clarifying School Year Changes: What You Need to Know

Recently, information circulated on social media and news outlets claiming that the government has shortened the school holidays for students in 2025.

The Ministry of Education and Science dismissed these claims as "false" and clarified that the duration of the school year is determined separately by each school.

They acknowledged that according to a Cabinet resolution, the school year runs from September 2, 2024, to June 30, 2025. However, these dates are limits and not mandatory deadlines for completing the academic year.

"This date, as well as the structure of the school year, holiday dates, etc., is not determined by the government but by the schools themselves. This is not a new development; such flexibility has been provided by existing legislation for many years, even before the full-scale war," the ministry added.

In reality, schools have the autonomy to decide when to conclude the academic year for their students.

At the same time, the teaching council takes into account:

  • the overall educational workload;
  • the safety situation in the region;
  • the individual needs of students;
  • the readiness of teachers.
