Vadym Kravchuk Claims Silver at International Competitions in Košice

Ukrainian athlete Vadym Kravchuk secured a silver medal at the Continental Tour competitions held in Košice.

These competitions were Kravchuk's first after participating in the Ukrainian team championships in athletics, where he finished third, falling behind Dmytro Nikitin and Vladislav Lavskyi, who became the champion and runner-up, respectively.

Among the competitors in Košice was also Vladislav Lavskyi, making his international debut this year. The competition was fierce, featuring silver medalist of Euro-2022 Tobias Potie and Jan Štefela, who also won silver at the indoor Euro. Additionally, Mexican Edgar Rivera and Italians Marco Fassinotti and Manuel Lando, regulars at major international events, participated.

How did the high jump competitions unfold in Košice?

  • Lavskyi ended his competition at a height of 2.21 m, failing to clear it on all three attempts. In contrast, Kravchuk continued and cleared the height on his second attempt.
  • The key height for determining the medalists was set at 2.25 m, which Kravchuk and Czech Štefela cleared on their third attempt, while four other jumpers—Rivera, Fassinotti, Potie, and Bulgarian Tihomir Ivanov—failed to clear it.
  • Kravchuk faced Štefela in the battle for gold, ultimately losing as the Czech cleared 2.28 m on his first attempt. After two unsuccessful tries, Kravchuk moved the bar to 2.31 m but also failed to clear it.
  • The 2.25 m height matched Kravchuk's personal best of the season. He had previously cleared this height twice: in June 2021 in Kyiv outdoors and in January 2024 indoors in Germany.
