The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a new procedure for recognizing educational achievements obtained abroad at the level of complete general secondary education.
This applies to foreign schools as well as educational centers such as Saturday and Sunday schools, as explained by the Ministry of Education and Science.
The ministry emphasizes the critical importance of this mechanism for children residing abroad who wish to obtain Ukrainian diplomas or return to studies without losing their academic year.
How will educational results obtained abroad be recognized in Ukraine?
It is planned that Ukraine will establish a register of Ukrainian educational institutions abroad.
This register will include institutions that have submitted applications through the Automated Educational Management Information Complex (AICOM) and have successfully passed verification by relevant commissions. One of the requirements will be the teaching of subjects related to Ukrainian studies.
Applications for inclusion in the register will be accepted starting in the autumn of 2025 through the Ministry's website. The ministry promises to publish the submission algorithm and verification criteria soon.
Results of education from foreign institutions will be recognized automatically in Ukraine without additional assessments, with grades transferred according to the scale approved by the Ministry.
Results of informal education will also be recognized if the student studied in centers, educational institutions, or public organizations registered in AICOM.
Otherwise, academic performance will be taken into account based on general rules.
“If a child studied subjects related to Ukrainian studies in a Saturday or Sunday school abroad, their results can be counted if evaluated according to the Ukrainian grading scale,” the ministry explained.
What opportunities does this mechanism provide for children studying in educational centers abroad?
Recall that in February 2025, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a legislative bill that allows for the recognition of educational results for children studying abroad.
