Moment of Silence in Odesa
Every day at 9:00 AM, a moment of silence takes place at 8 intersections in Odesa.
A number of Ukrainians in the United States under a humanitarian program received erroneous emails about the cancellation of their status.
According to Reuters, this occurred earlier in the week, as Ukrainians received messages stating that their status was revoked, giving them only seven days to leave the country or they would be located.
"If you do not leave the United States immediately, you may become subject to law enforcement actions that could result in your removal from the U.S. Your humanitarian status is revoked. Do not attempt to remain in the U.S.", the message warned.
However, on Friday, April 4, a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security confirmed that the email was sent in error and that the program for Ukrainians created after the Russian invasion in 2022 was still active. It is currently unclear how many Ukrainians received these erroneous messages.
On the same day, the Department of Homeland Security sent a follow-up email clarifying that "the terms of your humanitarian status remain unchanged at this time."
It is worth noting that in January, following Donald Trump's inauguration, the Department of Homeland Security ordered a suspension of several programs that allowed migrants to temporarily settle in the U.S., including a key initiative facilitating entry for Ukrainians.
