The identification of approximately 6,000 bodies of fallen Ukrainian defenders, transferred by the Russian side, may take at least 13-14 months.
This was stated by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Igor Klymenko, during a national telethon.
Duration of the identification process for 6000 defenders' bodies
The minister noted that the Russian side has currently handed over 6,060 bodies of the deceased.
“I can only roughly assess the situation, as the analysis is still ongoing – we need to determine the condition of the remains and how many are actually contained in the packages provided to us. However, according to preliminary estimates, it will take at least 13-14 months to identify these approximately 6,000 bodies,” said Igor Klymenko.
He also emphasized that this timeframe is the minimum required for a complete identification of all repatriated bodies.
According to him, to complete this complex and important work as quickly as possible, all relevant services – forensic examination, expert units, and investigators – are working in three shifts.
