On October 24, 2024, an important meeting took place in Odessa between Mayor Gennady Trukhanov and Mr. Muhittin Celik, the newly appointed General Consul of the Republic of Turkey. The primary aim of the meeting was to introduce each other and discuss potential collaboration between Odessa and Turkey.

Mr. Celik emphasized Turkey's critical support for Ukraine:
«I follow your updates on Telegram and can confidently say that you are doing much more than just your duties as mayor. Turkey has supported Ukraine's sovereignty since the annexation of Crimea in 2014. We will continue to provide humanitarian aid and support at the local level».

Mayor Trukhanov expressed gratitude to the Turkish people for their ongoing support and voiced hopes for further collaboration, particularly in the area of investments.

«It is a pleasure to meet you. We are very thankful that Turkey is one of Ukraine’s strategic partners, especially for Odessa. During the war, we received considerable aid from your country, including buses, generators, medical supplies, food, and much more. Despite the war, we are developing our city's economy and look forward to Turkish investments,» said Gennady Trukhanov.

Both parties expressed their readiness for continued close cooperation to support humanitarian and economic projects in Odessa.
