Meeting to Address Humanitarian Needs in Odesa

On October 15, 2024, an important meeting took place at the Odesa City Council where acting mayor Oleksandr Filatov and advisor Veronika Etnarovych met with UN humanitarian coordinator in Ukraine, Mr. Matthias Schmale.

Among the attendees were: head of the Europe, Central Asia, and Caucasus department Mr. Abdul Hak Amiri, acting head of UN OCHA in Ukraine Ms. Anne-Sophie Le Beaux, head of the Southern Hub of UN OCHA in Ukraine Teikshur Mugari, humanitarian advisor Alina Basiuk, and the director of the Department of Labor and Social Policy of the Odesa City Council Olena Kytainska.

The meeting focused on security issues and the humanitarian needs of the city amid military aggression, support for internally displaced persons, and preparations for winter.

UN representatives emphasized that the Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan will consider the need for assistance to internally displaced persons and the provision of additional protective shelters in Odesa.

They also discussed the importance of maintaining stable operations of heating and water supply facilities for social institutions during the autumn-winter period.

Oleksandr Filatov, on behalf of the Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov, thanked international partners for their cooperation and comprehensive assistance, particularly in restoring homes affected by hostile attacks.
