Improvement of Rainwater Drainage Systems in Odessa

The municipal enterprise «City Roads» is consistently engaged in maintaining the rainwater drainage systems in proper condition.

Specialists are involved in the repair and cleaning of storm sewer collectors, catch basin grates, rain wells, and specialized hydraulic structures (such as drainage ditches and buffer ponds) by removing sludge, leaves, debris, and reeds.

Cleaning of rainwater drainage systems in the streets of Odessa is carried out regularly according to a citywide plan. During heavy rainfall, emergency crews from «City Roads» work additionally on city streets. Municipal workers clear debris and fallen leaves from catch basin grates, ensuring that rainwater can flow freely off the streets.

In the first eleven months of this year, the enterprise's employees have cleaned: ditches and channels - 16,887 linear meters, catch basins - 4,374, collectors - 5,273 linear meters, and also flushed sleeves - 23,999 linear meters.

Additionally, staff have mowed grass on ditches and channels of hydraulic structures (10,465 linear meters) and cleaned 1,735.6 square meters of the buffer pond.

Rainwater drainage cleaning is performed both manually and with the help of heavy machinery, including excavators with special attachments, graders, and high-pressure hydraulic units mounted on MAN trucks for flushing drainage pipes.

Moreover, specialists from «City Roads» also repair wells, replace sleeves in catch basins, and, if necessary, raise grates to road level and restore inspection well covers.

Since the beginning of 2024, the company's workers have installed and replaced 58 grates in catch basins and repaired 34 catch basins with new castings.

During operation, catch basin grates may sink, creating depressions in the roadway that can lead to accidents. Specialists from «City Roads» regularly address this issue.

Since the start of this year, municipal workers have raised 96 sunken catch basin grates to roadway level and installed 20 inspection wells to match the roadway. They have also repaired 8 inspection wells with new castings and installed 4 cover slabs on inspection wells and 12 catch basins.

Furthermore, since the beginning of this year, the enterprise's employees have repaired 45 linear meters of collectors, conducted video inspections of 588 linear meters of collectors, and pumped out 1,081 cubic meters of rainwater from the roadway.
