Winter Season Preparedness: New Initiatives by the Municipal Enterprise 'City Roads'

To maintain road safety and effectively respond to winter conditions, the Municipal Enterprise «City Roads» is introducing a series of new initiatives.

Traditionally, street washing is completed in November, and the machinery is retrofitted. Tanks are removed from street cleaning vehicles and replaced with sand-salt spreaders.

Winter equipment is being installed on most of the machinery, which are equipped with snow plows. All vehicles undergo inspection and preventive maintenance. After the preparations, the special machinery's operation will be tested on the company’s premises.

The Municipal Enterprise «City Roads» manages snow removal vehicles, sand spreaders, graders, excavators, and other equipment. For the 2024-2025 autumn-winter season, 104 units of machinery and 560 workers will be engaged in snow removal and ice management. As of November 4, 37 units of machinery have been retrofitted and ready for use, with preparations set to be completed by the end of November.

Additionally, the enterprise is stockpiling anti-icing sand-salt mixtures. In case of worsening weather conditions, 11,860 tons of reagents have been secured for road treatment.

The Municipal Enterprise «City Roads» has developed 17 routes for snow removal vehicles to ensure rapid clearance of roads from snow accumulations and ice removal. Furthermore, there are 54 routes designated for treating streets with reagents to reduce road hazards.

Starting from December 1, 2024, the traditional round-the-clock duty of the Municipal Enterprise «City Roads» teams will begin for prompt response to deteriorating weather conditions. The duty rooms are prepared, and the personnel operating the machinery are equipped with winter clothing.
