Advancements in Electric Transport in Odesa: New Routes and Refurbished Trams

The enhancement of electric transport in Odesa is a primary focus for the city authorities.

On 13 tram routes, about 80 trams operate daily. The most frequented is route No. 7, while the least serves only 2 trams on route No. 20.

On September 30, 2024, another fully refurbished Tatra T3 tram was put into service.

«Despite the war, we are committed to advancing public transport in Odesa. This tram was refurbished using the company’s own funds, allowing us to save significantly, as a new tram costs at least 18 million hryvnias. I appreciate the team for their hard work in these challenging times,» emphasized Odesa's Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov.

The refurbished tram features a complete overhaul both outside and inside, along with a new management system that is 40% more economical.

The Mayor also mentioned that the possibility of equipping older Tatra models with mechanisms for wheelchair access is currently being explored.

The renovation of the Tatra T3 tram was carried out at the workshops of KP «Odesmiskelektrotrans» using the company’s funds. This is a unique example of a capital repair.
For the first time during the renovation, the interior of the cabin and the driver's booth were updated, new seats were installed, and a new heating and air conditioning system was added for the driver's cabin. The glass was installed using a bonding method, similar to retrofitting. Plans are in place to refurbish another similar tram by the end of 2024, and in 2025, two more trams.
Additionally, at the start of 2024, two units of the Tatra T-3-Od model were refurbished and are now successfully operating on the «North – South» route. They underwent a capital restoration with modifications funded by the budget.
In 2025, a similar capital restoration with modifications is planned for four more trams.
