Breast Cancer Awareness Day in Odesa

Last week, Odesa held a Breast Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Day for the female population. This event was organized with support from the Odesa City Council's Department of Health and the Odesa City Health Center in honor of the Nationwide Breast Cancer Awareness Day.

Women were provided with the opportunity to undergo free clinical breast examinations and receive consultations from family doctors, therapists, surgeons, and oncologists. Additionally, doctors at the consultation and diagnostic centers conducted mammograms and ultrasounds free of charge for women who came without electronic referrals.

As a result of the event, a total of 1822 women underwent preventive mammological examinations. There were 669 referrals made for mammography and 388 for ultrasounds. A total of 170 women were referred for further consultation with a mammologist.

On the day of the event, 97 women underwent free mammographic examinations through self-referral, which allowed for the timely detection of 8 suspected cases of breast cancer. All patients were referred for further consultation and examination at specialized medical facilities.

Remember! Women over 40 should have screening mammograms once a year, even in the absence of complaints or symptoms. Timely diagnosis allows for the detection of precancerous conditions and malignant tumors at early stages, which are treatable.

Medical facilities in Odesa have been equipped with modern mammographs funded by the city budget, and a unique Family Health Center has been established at the consultation and diagnostic center No. 6 for comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of breast diseases.
