Preparations for the New Year and Christmas celebrations are in full swing in Odesa. Yesterday, the installation of the main Christmas tree began on Deribasivska Street. 

The tree stands 20 meters tall and 9 meters wide, topped with a traditional Christmas star. This year's tree will be adorned with elements of traditional Ukrainian ornamentation and blue-yellow ribbons. 

The official opening is scheduled for December 6th, St. Nicholas Day. 

“On St. Nicholas Day, the main Christmas tree of Odesa will be inaugurated along with a festive concert organized by the Department of Culture. Guests will enjoy a concert by the Odesa Municipal Wind Music Theater named after O. Salik, as well as performances by talented children from local artistic institutions. Celebratory events will also take place at various municipal venues, including the zoo,” said Ivan Liptuga, the director of the Department of Culture. 

Due to the state of war and curfew, mass street celebrations on New Year’s Eve are not planned.
