Odessa's Energy Revolution: A New Initiative

The municipality of Odessa, in collaboration with the Japanese government and UNDP, along with support from international partners in Norway and Sweden, is launching a project to construct energy facilities based on gas piston engines with a total capacity of around 30 MW.

This initiative is part of a decentralization effort aimed at enhancing the energy resilience and security of the community.

The first cogeneration unit is now connected and is supplying energy to one of the city's heating plants.

«This unit can produce 3.3 MW per hour. The heating plant requires about half of that capacity. We plan to redirect the excess to support other critical infrastructure facilities», stated the mayor of Odessa.

Currently, work is underway to connect three more cogeneration units that have already arrived in the city.
In total, nine units with a combined capacity of 30 MW will be manufactured for Odessa.

Additionally, Odessa has received seven cogeneration units from the German agency GIZ. All will be installed at district heating plants, with two already in the connection process. Components for connecting the remaining five units are expected to arrive soon.
