The public organization «Decolonization. Ukraine» has released updated data on the streets that are set to be renamed as part of the decommunization and decolonization efforts. The list includes 228 streets in the Odesa region.
The Odesa region ranks fifth among Ukrainian regions for the number of streets needing renaming. The leader remains the Zaporizhia region, which has 1001 streets to be decolonized.
«This list is not exhaustive, as there are streets named after local communist figures that few were aware of», the organization noted, adding that the map will be updated regularly.
It is also highlighted that there are regions where, according to activists, the renaming process is already complete, specifically in Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv regions.
The YouTube channel «Odesa Life» has launched a new series of videos titled «Streets of Odesa: Then and Now», discussing the individuals after whom the streets of Odesa and the surrounding areas are named.
Previously, the «Decolonization. Ukraine» project published a map of monuments and plaques dedicated to Pushkin that have yet to be dismantled. According to their estimates, the highest number is located in Odesa. Additionally, there have been suggestions to rename Mark Twain Park in Odesa.
