Driver's License in Ukraine: Age and Requirements

Having a driver's license symbolizes freedom, independence, and new opportunities. Many individuals associate driving skills with a certain age and knowledge.

In Ukraine, there is no upper age limit for obtaining a driver's license. This means that even older adults can become drivers, provided there are no medical contraindications. However, there are specific legal guidelines regarding the minimum age for acquiring a license.

According to Ukrainian law, individuals can begin their driver training at 16 years old for categories A and A1, which pertain to mopeds and motorcycles. To drive trucks with trailers, one must be at least 19 years old, and for trolleybuses and trams, the minimum age is 21.

As per the Law of Ukraine on Traffic, the right to operate vehicles is granted to individuals who have reached:

16 years – for categories A1, A;
18 years – for categories B1, B, C1, C;
19 years – for categories BE, C1E, CE;
21 years – for categories D1, D, D1E, DE, T.
