Corruption Case in Odesa: Official Arrested
A government official in Odesa has been arrested for soliciting bribes to remove individuals from a wanted list.
Today, April 13, activists in Odessa held a protest near the Pushkin statue located by the city hall on Primorsky Boulevard: they placed a noose around the statue and hung a sign saying «Looking for a bulldozer».
Some locals expressed outrage at these actions, as seen in the released video.
«Don't you have more important issues?» – asked a man off-camera.
The outcome of the confrontation remains unknown.
Kateryna Musienko, the head and founder of the youth organization «We Make You Nervous», stated that the activists aimed to «prepare the Pushkin statue for Easter».
«Today, we, the activists, prepared the statue for the holiday. This clearly indicates that the figure should be in a museum. We follow Ukrainian Easter traditions – we take out all the unnecessary stuff!», – she wrote on Facebook.
She also asserted that «the history of occupation should be studied in museums».
«Colonial monuments have no place on the streets of Ukrainian cities», – Musienko is convinced.
She believes that the city council should have the authority to dismantle the statue and is neglecting its duties.
«Let's help Trukhanov find the equipment to remove this marker of the «Russian World»! Tear off the number from the «Looking for a bulldozer» sign and call the mayor!», – called the activist.
