New GMO Registry: A Step Towards Enhanced Consumer Safety

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine has announced the approval of a new order for managing the registry of genetically modified organisms, aimed at enhancing consumer safety.

This registry will serve as a unified platform for tracking and monitoring GMOs in Ukraine.

The implementation of this registry is a crucial step towards ensuring transparency in the biotechnology sector and aligning with international standards, particularly in fulfilling Ukraine's obligations under the EU agreement.

Additionally, the new regulation harmonizes Ukrainian legislation with European norms regarding GMOs, specifically Directive 2001/18/EC.

This will help mitigate risks and reduce negative impacts on public health and the environment.

The regulation will take effect in September 2026, coinciding with a new law regulating genetic engineering activities in Ukraine.
