Daily Fire Statistics in Ukraine

Every day, Ukraine reports an average of 240 fires, resulting in approximately four deaths and five injuries.

This information was provided by Roman Tsyren, head of the Department of Emergency Situations Prevention, during a briefing at the "Media Center Ukraine".

According to Tsyren, these figures indicate a "concerning trend" when viewed from an annual perspective.

"On average, two thousand citizens die from fires each year, and five thousand may be injured," he noted.

The State Emergency Service also urged Ukrainians to refrain from lighting fires in nature during Easter celebrations.

"Our country has suffered greatly from explosive devices. Many previously occupied territories still contain numerous dangerous remnants.

Especially if forests and parks are to be used, I would not recommend starting a fire, as there has been a significant increase in ecosystem fires this year. A 68% increase in these incidents has been recorded," explained Roman Tsyren.

Additionally, fatalities and injuries related to road traffic accidents are also accounted for in emergency statistics.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, nearly 26,000 accidents with casualties occurred in 2024. Over 3,200 people died and more than 32,000 were injured. This represents a 5-9% increase compared to 2023.

As noted by Oleksiy Biloshytskyi, the first deputy head of the Patrol Police Department, the most common cause of accidents with casualties is speeding, accounting for nearly 39.4% of cases.

Other prevalent causes of accidents included violations of maneuvering rules, traffic light regulations, and driving under the influence of alcohol.

"If we add to this the road accidents that have claimed six thousand lives, the losses are enormous," concluded the head of the Department of Emergency Situations Prevention.

It is worth noting that only 55 Ukrainians died as a result of domestic fires in the first six days of 2025. Fires were caused by electrical shorts, failure to comply with heating device usage rules, and careless handling of fire, including smoking in bed while intoxicated.
