Prohibited Hunting Methods in Ukraine

During an inspection of the Lebedivka forest area, located within the boundaries of the Tuzlivski Lymany National Park, a forester discovered and confiscated 8 illegal wire traps. The conservation service reminds that setting traps has serious ecological and legal consequences.

This was reported by the conservation service of the «Tuzlivski Lymany» national park.

Traps are primitive tools used for catching birds and animals, primarily utilized by poachers. They are discreetly placed in areas frequented by wild animals.

The negative impacts of using traps include:

  • injury and death of wild animals;
  • destruction of rare species;
  • disruption of ecosystems;
  • difficulties in detection due to the hidden nature of the devices.

Using traps constitutes a serious violation of environmental legislation.

According to Ukrainian law, any activity harmful to natural complexes, including hunting, is prohibited.

Under the Criminal Code of Ukraine, illegal hunting is punishable by fines or imprisonment.

The rules of hunting are defined by the Law of Ukraine on hunting and game management.

Illegal hunting includes:

  • hunting without proper permits;
  • hunting for animals not listed in permits;
  • hunting in prohibited areas;
  • hunting during restricted times;
  • using banned methods.

To be held accountable for this crime, it is sufficient to commit at least one type of illegal hunting.

The Code of Ukraine on administrative offenses stipulates fines for violations of rules regarding the use of wildlife.

Furthermore, guards remind that forest areas in the Odesa region are off-limits during the martial law period in Ukraine.
