Collaboration with Korean Corporation in Environmental Sector

With the support of the State Agency for Infrastructure Restoration of Ukraine, a meeting took place in the Kyiv office of the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development between Odessa's Mayor Gennady Trukhanov, his deputy Anna Pozdnyakova, and representatives of POSCO E&C, one of the world leaders in infrastructure construction.

POSCO E&C has already constructed over 30 waste incineration plants globally. Anna Pozdnyakova noted that the most valuable experience comes from a plant built in Warsaw, which she visited in March. It was constructed in accordance with European legislation and EU environmental standards, which Ukraine is integrating into its national laws. The comprehensive waste management approach implemented in Warsaw aligns with the concepts being studied in Odessa.

This meeting marked the first dialogue with POSCO E&C representatives regarding the potential construction of a waste incineration plant in Odessa.

“We have strong ties with Ukraine and already completed projects in the metallurgy and agro-industrial sectors, particularly in Mykolaiv region, and we hope for further active cooperation,” stated the vice president of the Korean corporation, Mr. Kim Yong Hyun.

The infrastructure project has already been approved by the relevant ministry and included in the city's heating supply scheme. Following negotiations, the parties agreed to work on the organizational and technical issues necessary for project implementation.

“We have government support and all prerequisites to realize this important project for Odessa. I hope we can start it as soon as possible. Firstly, it's an ecological initiative, and secondly, it involves the construction of thermal and electrical energy generation, which is extremely necessary for our city,” emphasized Mayor Gennady Trukhanov.
