Photo Exhibition: Exploring Ecosystems from Amazon to Antarctica

On April 24, an extraordinary photo exhibition showcasing the beauty and vulnerability of our planet will open at the «Dialogues» gallery located at 2 Soborna Square in Odessa.

This was announced by the National Antarctic Scientific Center.

The exhibition, a joint Ukrainian-Peruvian initiative, is symbolically titled «Planet «on the grill»: vulnerable worlds of Antarctica and the Amazon». It combines photographs from two drastically different ecosystems: the humid Amazon rainforests and the icy Antarctic.

The exhibition features 36 photos displayed in pairs, illustrating the commonalities between the contrasting Amazon and Antarctica, including human impact on nature, vulnerable species, and their stunning beauty.

The Amazon photographs are taken by Freddy F. Ramirez, a researcher from the National University of the Peruvian Amazon. Most of the images were captured in 2024.

The Antarctic photos are created by Ukrainian photographers who were active on the icy continent between 2019 and 2024.

Recently, both ecosystems have been undergoing irreversible changes, scientists noted. The record drought in the humid Amazon forests and the melting glaciers in Antarctica are «symptoms» of the same disease — climate change.

The photos will reveal what is happening to these ecosystems and how local flora and fauna are responding.

The exhibition opens on April 24 at 18:00 in the «Dialogues» gallery at 2 Soborna.

Evgen Dykhyi, the director of the National Antarctic Scientific Center, will participate in the opening.

The venue is located in a basement, providing additional protection.

The exhibition will run until May 3. Admission is free.
