Innovations in Transport: Making Odessa More Accessible

The Mayor of Odessa, Hennadiy Trukhanov, participated in a meeting of the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine, which was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba.

On the agenda was the establishment of new transport and pedestrian routes in 15 pilot cities.

Odessa has joined the flagship project "Movement Without Barriers," launching one of the longest inclusive tram routes in Ukraine, "North-South."

"For several years, we have been conducting comprehensive work: replacing tracks, modernizing key transport hubs, and updating rolling stock. In addition to tram services, we are planning to create pedestrian inclusive routes. Currently, thorough inspections of the relevant locations are being carried out. A budget of 127 million hryvnias has already been planned. The city will cover a significant portion of the costs, but we also expect support from regional authorities and the state,” said Odessa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov.

The mayor also emphasized the importance of creating an inclusive space in the coastal area, which is an integral part of developing an accessible environment in Odessa. This includes the installation of special ramps, beach areas, and adapted infrastructure for people with disabilities and mobility-impaired groups.

We are committed to making the urban space comfortable and accessible for everyone, including barrier-free seaside recreation.
