Restoration of Lighting Networks in Odesa: The Impact of Vandalism

In Odesa, workers from the municipal enterprise «Odesmisksvitlo» have been working for the third day to restore external lighting on the Health Route, which was damaged due to vandalism.

Law enforcement has recorded instances of theft of automatic switches, damage to cables, and theft of terminal box covers. As a result, internet connectivity and surveillance cameras were disrupted.

The total damage caused to the enterprise exceeds 50 thousand UAH.

At the end of last year, a similar act of vandalism was recorded on the Health Route. Unknown individuals damaged the equipment of ten poles, stole automatic switches and terminal box covers, and ripped out cables.

The Odesa city council appeals to residents and visitors to treat municipal property with care. If you witness acts of vandalism, please report them by calling 102 (police).

Intentional damage to municipal property is subject to criminal liability.


Liability for damage to municipal property under the Criminal Code of Ukraine
1. Intentional destruction or damage to another's property causing significant harm is punishable by a fine of up to fifty (850 UAH) non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens, or community service for a period of one hundred twenty to two hundred forty hours, or corrective labor for up to two years, or restriction of liberty for up to three years, or imprisonment for the same period.

Article 296. Hooliganism
1. Hooliganism, that is, gross violation of public order motivated by blatant disrespect for society, accompanied by special audacity or exceptional cynicism, is punishable by a fine from five hundred (8500 UAH) to one thousand (17000 UAH) non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens, or arrest for up to six months, or restriction of liberty for up to five years.
2. The same actions committed by a group of individuals are punishable by restriction of liberty for up to five years or imprisonment for up to four years.
