Green Infrastructure Enhancement in Odessa

Employees of the Municipal Enterprise «Miskzelentrest» are actively engaged in stump removal across the city.

Since the beginning of the year, over 600 stumps have been removed, including 120 in the Preobrazhensky Park and 56 on Prince Volodymyr the Great Avenue under the «Barrier-free Odessa» initiative.

Currently, work is ongoing on Kanatna Street, where 34 out of 51 planned stumps have been removed this week.

The Odessa City Council urges residents and visitors not to park their cars near the work sites to avoid obstructing the machinery.

Stump removal is a complex task. Until this year, municipal workers lacked specialized equipment, which prolonged the process.

With new technology, horticulturists are significantly reducing the time required for this physically demanding work: previously, manual stump removal was expected to take 12 hours, but now removing a 70 cm stump takes only 40 minutes.

A total of 852 stumps are planned for removal in the city center. New young trees such as maple, ash, acacia, sophora, plane, and linden will be planted where old stumps were.

Work is being carried out using new equipment — the Rotor Speedy 80/100 stump grinder and the KATA KF1404 tractor with a power of 140 horsepower.
