Safety Initiatives in Odesa: New Mobile Shelters for Citizens

On August 19, 2025, an important meeting was held in Odesa to discuss the establishment of new mobile shelters in areas where citizens gather, initiated by Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov.

The meeting was conducted by Acting Deputy Mayor Serhiy Kotsyuba and Advisor on Barrier-Free Space Oleksiy Morozov.

Key department representatives participated in the meeting: Director of the Education Department Olena Buinevych, Director of the Department of Labor and Social Policy Olena Kytayska, and Director of Internal Policy Alexander Zhiltsov.

“Our goal is to provide Odesa residents with safe spaces in the places they frequent daily. It's crucial to quickly identify locations and ensure that shelters meet all standards,” stated Serhiy Kotsyuba.

The main issues discussed were the compliance of existing mobile shelters with established norms and determining priority locations near areas with large crowds.

“Barrier-free access in safety matters is essential. Mobile shelters must be accessible to people with disabilities and all mobility-impaired groups — from access routes to the internal space,” emphasized Oleksiy Morozov.

Following the meeting, relevant departments will prepare proposals for locations and provide coordinated information about the technical condition and compliance of mobile shelters with requirements.
