Water Supply Alternatives in Odesa
Overview of the water supply situation in Odesa and alternative water sources during the power outage.
From October 24 to November 6, gas supply to the Unknown Sailor memorial, popularly known as the «Eternal Flame», will be temporarily suspended in Odesa. This is due to planned technical and preventive maintenance work on this significant site.
The city council has announced that informational signs detailing the schedule of works have already been placed near the memorial. The work is expected to last nearly two weeks, concluding on November 6.
About the memorial complex «Monument to the Unknown Sailor»
The memorial complex «Monument to the Unknown Sailor» is located in the Taras Shevchenko Central Park of Culture and Recreation, along the Alley of Glory. It was inaugurated on May 9, 1960, in honor of Soviet sailors who perished during the defense of Odesa in World War II.
The 21-meter high obelisk is made of red granite, designed by sculptor M. I. Naruzetsky and architects P. V. Tomilin and G. V. Topuz. At the base of the obelisk burns the Eternal Flame — a symbol of remembrance and honor for the heroes. Along the Alley of Glory, there are also graves of Soviet Union Hero pilots, marines, submariners, and border guards. Every year, solemn events are held here in observance of Remembrance and Reconciliation Day, Odesa Liberation Day, and other commemorative dates.
