Gas Import Challenges in Ukraine: Strategies and Solutions

Since the start of 2025, the company "Naftogaz" has imported around 800 million cubic meters of gas due to hostile attacks and reduced production.

This was reported by the press service of "Naftogaz".

The figure was stated by acting CEO Roman Chumak during a meeting with the Japanese ambassador to Ukraine, Masashi Nakagome.

"As a result of the attacks, we have lost part of the gas production, therefore the priority is to restore the damaged facilities and resume production before the next heating season begins."

In addition, the Group continues to import gas to compensate for losses and to build sufficient reserves – approximately 800 million cubic meters of gas have been imported since the beginning of the year."

"Naftogaz" also mentioned that they are currently working with the government and international partners to find funding opportunities for the necessary gas volumes for the upcoming winter.

It should be noted that Ukraine may import a record 5 billion cubic meters of gas from Europe due to Russian attacks on energy infrastructure and depletion of reserves.
