Hero of Ukraine: The Journey of Mykhailo Korsun

Mykhailo Korsun, a soldier from the 808th Dniester Separate Support Brigade, has been awarded the prestigious "Gold Star" – the highest state honor given for acts of bravery. The award was presented by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, as reported by the brigade's press service.

The President highlighted that thanks to heroes like Mykhailo, Ukraine has been able to withstand aggression. By a decree of the President of Ukraine, Senior Soldier Mykhailo Korsun has been awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine for his personal courage displayed in the struggle for the independence of our state.

"It is precisely thanks to such people that we can preserve our independence. I am proud of every hero fighting for our country," noted Volodymyr Zelensky.

Mykhailo hails from Dnipro and volunteered for the ATO zone as early as 2014, previously serving in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. He participated in the liberation of Slovyansk and Kramatorsk.

Currently, he is a driver-sapper in the 808th Dniester Separate Support Brigade. Since August 2023, Mykhailo has been performing combat missions in the Kherson region and later in Kursk.

"When you have a son who also serves, you perceive the situation differently. You feel responsible for your comrades, just as for your children," Mykhailo shared in an interview.

He recounted how, after an explosion in his neighborhood that claimed many children's lives, he made the final decision to continue fighting. "The enemy has no principles whatsoever," he noted.

In March 2025, while carrying out a mission to evacuate the wounded, Mykhailo's vehicle was attacked, but he managed to save his comrades despite sustaining injuries himself.

"I do not consider myself a hero. I was just doing what needed to be done," he stated. Mykhailo urged newcomers to learn and be prepared to act in challenging situations.
