Homeless Man Arrested for Arson of Vehicle

A homeless man has been arrested in Odessa for setting fire to a vehicle. The motive for the crime stems from a personal grievance against the car's owner. He has been charged and faces up to 10 years behind bars.

This was reported by the press service of the National Police.

Recently, emergency services alerted the police about a fire involving a Volkswagen vehicle on a street in the Peresyp District. In just three hours, investigators identified that a 50-year-old homeless man was responsible for the arson.

Investigators collected several pieces of evidence for forensic examination. They also determined that the man committed the crime to take revenge on the 30-year-old car owner for denying him entry into the apartment building where his friend lives.

"We apprehended the suspect in accordance with legal procedures and charged him with willful damage to another's property by fire. According to part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, this crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to ten years. The court has selected a preventive measure of detention with the possibility of bail set at 121,120 UAH. The damages to the victim are still being assessed. The investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the Suvorov District Prosecutor's Office of Odessa," said Natalia Mrochko, Deputy Head of the Investigation Department of Police Station No. 3 of the Odessa District Police No. 1.
