Young Women Arrested for Arson of Vehicle

Two young women were apprehended after they set a vehicle on fire and intended to ignite another one. They face potential imprisonment for their actions.

This was reported by the police.

During the curfew, which currently lacks legal penalties for violations, the suspects set fire to a «Kia» belonging to a local civilian parked near her home. Firefighters extinguished the flames and notified the police.

With analytical support from the criminal analysis department of the National Police in Odessa, detectives from the regional police's criminal investigation unit, along with operatives and investigators from Police Station No. 1, identified that two local girls aged 17 and 18 were involved in the arson.

The minor, while seeking «easy» money through a messaging app, was recruited to set fire to military and police vehicles for a fee. She was also allowed to ignite any car after marking it with a white cross. Agreeing to this, she enlisted her 18-year-old friend.

The girls found a vehicle that met their curators' requirements, marked it with a cross, doused it with flammable liquid, and set it ablaze, recording the act on their phone as proof of their «work».

Later, they planned to burn another civilian vehicle, a «Renault», parked near the owner's home.

The police apprehended the suspects just before they could carry out the crime. They seized flammable materials, a lighter, duct tape, and other items prepared for the arson, as well as mobile phones containing communications with their employer.

Investigators detained the girls procedurally and, based on the collected evidence, charged them with intentional damage to another's property and attempted intentional damage to property through arson, conspired by a group of individuals. According to Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, they face up to 10 years in prison.

The court imposed a preventive measure of round-the-clock house arrest. Investigative actions are ongoing under the procedural guidance of the Primorsky District Prosecutor's Office in Odessa.
