Law enforcement officers arrested a 35-year-old resident of the Bolgrad district who fatally assaulted a friend during a gathering. The suspect has been charged and a preventive measure has been chosen. He faces up to 10 years in prison.

The incident occurred last week in a village of the Bessarabian community. A 42-year-old local man reported to the police that upon waking up in his house, he found his neighbor dead, who had been visiting him. Investigators sent the body of the 62-year-old deceased for forensic examination. Preliminary reports indicated that the cause of death was traumatic shock due to multiple rib fractures and other bodily injuries.

During the investigation, police established that the elderly man was beaten by a 35-year-old acquaintance with a criminal record for vehicle theft and armed hooliganism. The perpetrator confessed that while the host was resting, he and the victim continued to drink. A quarrel broke out between them, during which the suspect brutally assaulted his opponent. The aggression was allegedly sparked by offensive remarks about his wife.

"We detained the suspect under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and informed him of the charge of intentional grievous bodily harm that endangered life and resulted in the victim's death. According to the sanctions of Part 2 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, he faces up to 10 years of imprisonment. At our request, the court chose the preventive measure of detention. The investigation is ongoing under the procedural guidance of the Bolgrad District Prosecutor's Office," said Olena Uzun-Kurtoglo, head of the investigative department of police station No. 2 of the Bolgrad district.
