Tragic Incident: Man Shoots Neighbor's Dog with Air Rifle

A tragic event unfolded in the Bereziv community when a man shot a neighbor's dog using an air rifle. The offender now faces imprisonment.

The incident occurred in February when a local resident alerted the police after hearing whining from her neighbors' yard and discovering the body of their dog.

Upon arrival, law enforcement established that a 25-year-old man from a nearby village had visited friends and consumed alcohol with them. During their conversation, he learned that the family's mixed-breed dog was allegedly eating chickens. To 'teach' the dog a lesson, he retrieved an air rifle from his car and shot it in the eye.

According to the veterinary forensic examination, the dog died from cerebral edema caused by the gunshot wound.

The police quickly located the perpetrator and confiscated the weapon, which was found to be a .177 caliber single-shot air rifle.

After gathering sufficient evidence, the police informed the suspect of his charge for cruel treatment of animals resulting in death. Under Article 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, he faces a penalty of up to three years in prison.

The investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the Bereziv District Prosecutor's Office.
